Cops ‘n Kids Program to Distribute Over 800 Books

The Salvation Army in partnership with The Rockford Police Department will be distributing new books Wednesday, April 17 at Dennis Early Childhood Center located at 730 Lincoln Park Blvd. in Rockford from 9 to 11:30 am and 1:15 to 3:20pm.

Since 2009, The Salvation Army and the Rockford Police Department have been providing new books to children in Head Start programs and Early Childhood Centers through the Cops ‘n Kids Program.

On distribution day, each child is invited to select two new books to take home. Police officers interact with the children while choosing a book and then sign the child’s name and their own name on a special book plate. Children from a Spanish speaking home select one book in Spanish and one in English.

Each year we witness how the Cops ‘n Kids program helps create positive relationships between children and members of law enforcement. It also increases reading skills and encourages family time.
