Grateful to Be Here and Excited for What’s Ahead!
Dear Winnebago County Family,
We’re Captains Alex and Carolina Yanez, and we’re honored to introduce ourselves as the newest Salvation Army Officers serving the Winnebago County community. From our very first day, we’ve felt embraced, encouraged, and at home. It’s already clear to us — Rockford is a special place, and we’re honored to be a part of it.
We’re also thrilled to be serving alongside Captain Natalie Austin, who recently joined the team as the Winnebago County Mission Integration Officer. Together, we’re excited to make a lasting impact in this place we now call home, and we’re committed to walking alongside you as we work to meet needs, share hope, and build a stronger, more connected community.
One of our first experiences here was Vacation Bible School earlier this month, and what a way to start! We had the joy of spending the week with over 50 incredible local children, and their energy, laughter, and curiosity reminded us why we do what we do. It was a beautiful week of learning, growing, and celebrating God’s love.
In just a short time, we’ve also witnessed the many ways Social Services is helping transform lives right here in Winnebago County — from providing food through our Emergency Food Pantry, to assisting with rent and utility needs, to walking alongside families through our newest program, Pathway of Hope. This individualized approach is helping families break the cycle of poverty and move toward lasting stability, and we’re humbled to be part of that mission.
As we look ahead, we’re filled with hope and anticipation. We believe there are new and exciting things on the horizon for Rockford, and we can’t wait to see what God has in store.
