Helping Students Start the School Year Strong

Aug 8, 2025

On August 7, The Salvation Army of Winnebago County partnered with Walmart in Roscoe, IL, for a Stuff the Bus event — a community-wide effort to collect school supplies for local children.

Residents and businesses came together to make a difference, donating backpacks, pencils, folders, and more. In total, over 400 items were collected, helping ensure that students in our area start the school year with the tools to succeed.

The need in our community is great — 22% of children in Rockford live in poverty. Events like Stuff the Bus provide much-needed relief for families facing financial challenges.

Captain Natalie Austin, who was onsite for the event, shared, “Families need relief. This is one small way we're able to bring relief.”

The Salvation Army is deeply grateful to everyone who donated and to Walmart for their partnership. Your generosity helps kids in our community walk into the classroom with confidence and hope for the year ahead.
