Prayer for the City of Rockford Takes to the Streets (Ministry)

May 1, 2019 | by Beverly Peterson

Rockford, IL (May 1, 2019). A street ministry, Prayers for the City of Rockford, is literally taking to the streets this Saturday, May 4th at 10:30 a.m. to pray for our city, neighborhoods, city and county leadership, first responders, schools, teachers, students, and all residents within the city of Rockford. The Salvation Army of Winnebago County in partnership with Victory Outreach is hosting this event which starts with a prayer walk beginning at 10:00 a.m. from Brandy’s Candies, 113 N. Rockton Avenue, and ends at the corner of Morgan and South Main Streets.

Based on Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know,” the Prayer for Rockford Street Ministry was the brainchild of Carlos Chacon, a local house painter, and member of The Salvation Army Rockford Temple Hispanic Ministry. Carlos felt God calling him to minister outside the safe walls of the church in a neighborhood in need of prayer. Fashioned after the long-standing history of The Salvation Army’s open-air ministry, and starting last year with a handful of volunteers and an idea, the group met once a month during the summer on the corner of Morgan and South Main Streets to pray, sing, and provide food to those in need. This year, Sister Brandy with the Victory Outreach ministry has included a prayer walk and free Bible giveaway.

The event is free and everyone is welcome to attend. The service will be in both English and Spanish. The prayer walk begins at 10:00 a.m. at 113 N. Rockton Ave and the Prayer for Rockford street ministry begins at 10:30 a.m. at the corner of Morgan and South Main Streets.
