Salvation Army Red Kettle Donations to Be Doubled Thanks to $25,000 Matching Gift
Donations to be matched December 20-24 as Red Kettle Campaign comes to an end
The Salvation Army of Vigo County is excited to announce that all donations to Red Kettles will be doubled up to $25,000 from December 20 through 2:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve thanks to the efforts of several anonymous donors. Shoppers will be challenged to match the generosity of these local donors and to dig a little deeper to help meet the $25,000 goal.
"As of today, we are at $80,269.80 with roughly $45,000 to go to make sure The Salvation Army is fully funded for the coming year," said Captain Jeremy Fingar, corps officer for The Salvation Army of Vigo County. "The kettle match could not be more important this year. Between the arctic cold snaps and the rain, securing volunteers this year has been a challenge. It will take a lot of volunteer support to make this match happen, but we trust that we can do it together as a community."
Funds raised in Red Kettles each fall support The Salvation Army's year-round ministries, including emergency assistance to help households who've fallen behind on rent or utility payments or are struggling with food insecurity. Each dollar dropped into a kettle means more help for those who are in need throughout 2025. Thanks to this match, $5 dropped into a kettle will become $10 and the impact of every gift - large and small - will be doubled.
Red Kettles can be found at locations across the county, including Baesler’s Market, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Kroger, Hobby Lobby, Big Lots, Top Guns, and Kirby Foods of West Terre Haute.
Volunteer bell ringers are still needed to ensure that Red Kettles can be out through Christmas Eve. Individuals, groups, and families are invited to sign up on registertoring.com for the location, date, and time of their choosing.
“The average volunteer bell ringer raises between $100 and $150 in just two hours, so we need roughly 166 episodes of volunteerism to make our goal,” Captain Fingar added.
