Welcome to our Holiday Assistance Program

Please Read Carefully Red Highlighted Information

REGISTRATION DATES:
ONLINE Registration: October 25 - December 6
IN-PERSON Registration: Tuesday, November 14 - 10-5 at The Salvation Army Community Center, 1239 Barlow St. Traverse City   

HOLIDAY FOOD BASKETS - FOOD ONLY 
Applications are accepted at:

Monday - Friday from 9 AM - 4 PM

WHO do we help?
•    Households that have NOT applied for holiday assistance elsewhere
     (A child may not be registered with more than one area program)
•    Serving residents of Grand Traverse, Leelanau and Benzie Counties

WHAT assistance is available?
•    Christmas Toys and Gifts (children ages infant -17), Thanksgiving or Christmas Holiday Food Baskets for households with or without children.

HOW do I qualify for assistance? 
The following documentation must be uploaded during the online application and presented at the time of in-person registration. 
Documentation:  
Picture ID for all household members ages 18 and up is required. 
Proof of current physical address.
One ID for EACH child being registered that shows birth date
(Examples: Birth Certificate, Shot Record, or School Record). *Social Security Cards not accepted

Verification of Income: 
Verification of income is required; it must display all household income for last 30 days. 
(Paystubs – if no income DHHS award letters)  
Tax forms or a bank statement is accepted to verify the income for the self-employed 
Families up to the 150 percentile of the 2022 federal poverty level are eligible for assistance.

GETTING STARTED: You must have an Email Address or Have someone’s you can use that is accessible to you. No two people can use the same email address.

Question 1: You will be asked if you have ‘Already Started an Application’- Answer ‘No’ 
Question 2: Do you have an ‘Invitation Code’ Answer No 
Enter your Zip Code: The Salvation Army Traverse City services families in Grand Traverse Leelanau and Benzie County 
Enter Email Address: The program will automatically verify that your email address is good and send you VERIFICATION CODE. 
Enter Verification Code: You are ready for the application

PRIMARY APPLICANT INFORMATION PAGE: This is pretty straight forward.

HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS: Answer if there are additional adults in your household. If YES enter information for each person over 17 years old - if NO begin entering children’s information.

HOUSEHOLD BUDGET: 
MONTHLY INCOME: You must enter an amount in each of the categories – enter 0 where applicable.

EXPENSES: You cannot enter anything here – that is fine. Click Next!

ANGEL INFORMATION:
CHILDREN 12 and under: You must enter at minimum the required information.
 
IMPORTANT for Teen children (age 13 – 17) as of 2/25/2023:
Our Teen Angel program makes an effort to match each Teen with a community sponsor who adopt a specific teen(s) and directly purchases gifts for them. You will have the opportunity to provide a more extensive wish list on the Required document – Food Basket selection and Teen Wishes form – Click here to download.

REMINDER: Applications are not final until you have been contacted by a Holiday Distribution Team member. The Holiday Distribution Team will review needed documentation and qualification and schedule a pick-up time.
