When times hit hard, make The Salvation Army your first call.
When hard times hit, make us your first call. With 33 centers of operation throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul and the greater metro area, a location near you is ready to help whether the need is physical, emotional or spiritual. While services may vary at each of our Twin Cities locations, we generally provide basic needs assistance, housing, youth services, rehabilitation, disaster relief, counseling and spiritual care. Our programs and services are funded by generous donors and staffed by kind-hearted volunteers.

Get help with everything from your most basic needs to outlining a path to long-term stability at one of our eight Worship and Service Centers or seven social service offices in the Twin Cities (find a location near you). All of these locations have staff members available to discuss a wide range of needs from rent or utility assistance to transportation and food help (learn where you can get food help). We provide thousands of meals every single day through our hot meal programs and food shelves. Many of our food shelves also provide hygiene items. We also offer seasonal help like school supplies, winter wear (Coats for Kids) and toys at Christmas.
Many of our service centers provide housing help through rent assistance. Additionally, about 350 people each night rely on The Salvation Army for a warm bed at one of our emergency, transitional or permanent-supportive housing programs.
Emergency Housing
Emergency housing is exactly that, a temporary, one-night-at-a-time place to sleep safely. It’s a starting point where people in need can begin the process of stability and healing. Harbor Light Center in Minneapolis offers emergency housing for single adults and Booth Brown House in St. Paul is for young adults ages 18-21.
Transitional Housing
We also offer previously homeless people stable, transitional housing and crisis support for up to two years at our housing facilities. Harbor Light Center has units for single men and women, including options reserved for veterans. The Foyer housing program at Booth Brown House has 10 transitional, efficiency apartments for young people ages 16-25. We also help people transition to market-rate housing or housing supported by the government or other nonprofit agencies.
Permanent-Supportive Housing
While low-cost housing is an important piece of the puzzle, many people also need long-term support and guidance from trained case workers. That is what our permanent-supportive housing does. While guests can stay in these housing units as long as they’d like, our goal is to get them to a place of stability. HOPE Harbor is a 96-unit efficiency apartment building in Minneapolis for low-income single adults and the chronically homeless. Booth Manor is a 10-story apartment building for low-income seniors. Our Foyer housing program at Booth Brown House also has 25 permanent-supportive apartments for young adults ages 18-25. While we specialize broadly in care for singles, there are 16 family units in the north metro area for Sherburne County and Wright County. Harvest Hills is a community of eight townhouses for families struggling with medical challenges.
Seven of our Twin Cities Salvation Army Worship and Service Centers have after-school programs, evening church programs and summer day camps for youth. We also offer child care at the King Family Child Development Center (401 7th St. W. in St. Paul). For graduating high school seniors, the annual Linden Scholarship provides financial support to remove barriers to continued education.
For men in the grip of drug and alcohol addiction, the Adult Rehabilitation Center (900 N. 4th St., Minneapolis) offers a Christian-focused, six to 12 month work therapy program.
During natural disasters, police actions and three-alarm fires, our staff and volunteers are called on by local officials to give help to emergency responders and survivors. We specialize in providing meals to the masses, but are ready to help as various needs arise. We need compassionate people, like you, to join our disaster volunteer team.
Our Community Care Ministry comes to you – friendship and encouragement right in your home. We can also visit during your stay in a hospital, nursing home or other institution. Many locations in the Twin Cities offer special group fellowship opportunities such as Forever 50s for seniors, group prayer meetings or counseling for specific difficulties. When you or your loved one needs just a little help with day-to-day tasks, our Adult Day Center in Maplewood can help maintain independence while also meeting needs and providing social interaction.
Our officers are ordained pastors who lead worship at our Twin Cities Worship and Service Centers each Sunday (find a location near you). Our centers offer spiritual programming for all ages during the week. Our staff can also help you work through any season in life – spiritual or emotional. They offer advice based on God’s word and will pray with you for the strength to press on.
