Chicago Sky Superstar Allie Quigley Looks to Score for The Salvation Army

Aug 17, 2020

During this truncated basketball season, the WNBA is committing to raising awareness and funds for community organizations fighting for justice, empowering communities, and supporting youth. Numerous teams and players selected local causes to support through fundraising and awareness campaigns.

Chicago Sky guard Allie Quigley is supporting The Salvation Army Metropolitan Division’s STOP-IT anti-human trafficking program and the Joliet Corps Community Center youth programs – donating $20 for each three-point basket (she’s a two-time three-point champion, so we think this was a good choice).

She recently announced her support of these programs via a video on Twitter and Instagram, as well as during pre-game interviews, and is asking her supporters and followers to donate as well. Since her announcement, she has raised more than $1,000! She is more than 20 percent to her $5,000 goal by the end of the basketball season.

“After talking with family and doing a lot of research, I decided to support The Salvation Army Metropolitan Division. I was specifically drawn to the great work they are doing in the areas of empowering the youth and fighting for justice for trafficked individuals in the greater Chicagoland areas,” Quigley said. “I grew up in Joliet, and after reflecting the last few months, it’s not fair that kids growing up 40 miles north on the south side of Chicago didn’t have the same opportunities I did. I think all children and people deserve an equal chance in this life regardless of race or where they grew up. I want to be a part of this change and I think The Salvation Army is a great partner to help me do that.”

Quigley attended Joliet Catholic High School, and then DePaul University. She’s played professional basketball in Europe and the United States and is thrilled to be playing in her hometown. She and her wife, teammate Courtney Vandersloot, live in the area and are active on social media (with large numbers of followers), using their platforms to elevate the call for equality, social justice, and community support.

We are thrilled to work with Allie, and the Chicago Sky, and are hopeful this turns into a long-term partnership. Tune in to watch some games – and join us on Team Quigley!
