Clean Your Closets, Save the Planet
Earth Day is approaching, a time to pause and appreciate our amazing planet and to remember how important it is to take care of it.
In honor of Earth Day, which falls on April 22 this year, Salvation Army Family Stores throughout Chicagoland and the Northwest suburbs are offering several special promotions.
This Saturday, April 20: All clothing is 50% off. All yellow-tagged items are just 69 cents. All tan-tagged items are 25% off.
Also, if you purchase a special cloth recyclable bag from the stores for $4.44 (while supplies last), you get 4% off anything you can fit inside it at any Chicagoland Salvation Army Family Store through June 1.
Buying items from Salvation Army Family Stores not only saves you money, it’s kind to our planet as it keeps those items out of the landfills, notes Crystal Hernandez, regional supervisor for Salvation Army Family Stores in Chicagoland and the Northwest suburbs.
Likewise, donating your gently used goods is a creative way to recycle and reduce your carbon footprint. If you’ve recently done some Spring cleaning, consider giving your unwanted items to a Salvation Army Family Store. “We’d love to give your items a second chance to be of use,” said Hernandez.
The items most needed at Salvation Army Family Stores include clothing (in good repair and washed), accessories (purses, shoes, belts), toys (if your kid’s not playing with it, another one can), craft supplies (you may have given up scrapbooking, but others in your community haven’t) and small housewares (toasters, coffee makers, blenders).
Proceeds from items sold in The Salvation Army Family Stores benefit the Adult Rehabilitation Centers, which help adults in the grip of addiction find help, hope and a second chance at life.
“Your donations provide an opportunity in our community for employment and social service programs that repair and renew our planet and our community,” Hernandez said.
