Our Facilities

“Camping ministry is a big part of The Salvation Army. To have a place where people can come and feel comfortable in this kind of beautiful setting is very important to us. This type of setting makes many feel God’s presence in an even stronger way than other settings.”
Maj. Lee Ann Thompson

Sitting on 112 wooded acres in Nebraska, The Salvation Army Western Plains Camp offers an idyllic setting where kids and adults of all ages can enjoy the freedom of the great outdoors.

On April 29, 2023 hundreds gathered in South Sioux City for a special dedication ceremony for our new Western Plains Camp—improvements to the camp, include a new 16-unit guest lodge, a boathouse and nurse’s station and upgrades to the nine sleeping cabins. We are so grateful to everyone who made it possible for us to celebrate a new chapter in the camp’s history! Check out photos from the ceremony below.

The camp’s current facilities include:

  • A state-of-the-art community building with a beautiful outdoor amphitheater
  • Dining hall with seating capacity of 200 and a professional-grade kitchen
  • Technology-accessible meeting spaces/multi-use rooms
  • Nine bunkhouses that accommodate multiple campers
  • Director’s cabin
  • Recreation and activity spaces for games and arts and crafts
  • Zero-entry pool
  • Playground
  • Picnic shelters and fire pit
  • Lake access for canoeing, boating, fishing and other water activities

When not being used for camps, our facilities, including lodging, dining and meeting spaces, are also available for large or small group rental.
