The Weekly Word - A Devotion for the Week of September 19

Sep 16, 2022

You’ve undoubtedly faced circumstances at one time or another in your life that have utterly sapped your strength.

Maybe you’ve experienced the exhaustion of caring for a loved one who is chronically or terminally ill. Perhaps you’ve endured what feels like an endless period of unemployment or financial hardship. Or maybe your attempts to repair a damaged relationship have left you feeling tired, empty and hopeless.

The prophet Isaiah faced significant trials in his own lifetime. He understood that in spite of our very best efforts, our strength can waver and wane, especially as we walk through difficult circumstances.

This is why the word “renew” is so important in this verse. There are times when our reserves are indeed depleted and we feel like we’ve hit rock bottom. But in focusing our hope in the Lord, Isaiah reminds us, our strength will be renewed and replenished once again.

Gracious God, thank You for being my Sustainer and Restorer. Thank You for renewing my strength, especially when I need it most. Through You and in You, I am strong, even when I feel weak. Amen.
