Every night in the United States, 34 million families go to bed hungry. An additional 9 million families live on the edge of food insecurity, unsure where their next meal will come from.
The increasing demand for nutritious food has put significant pressure on food assistance programs nationwide. This growing need spreads resources thin and requires more community support to ensure families receive the help they need.
Access to a healthy diet is essential for overall well-being and protection against chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. In Wichita, approximately one-quarter of residents do not have access to healthy food options.
The Mobile Food Pantry (MFP), also known as the Canteen, helps provide nutritious food to individuals living in food deserts. By eliminating barriers to healthy eating, the Mobile Food Pantry serves 60-100 individuals per month, making it a critical part of our hunger relief efforts.
Anyone in need can receive food by simply providing their name and address. A caseworker is also available at each location to discuss additional programs and services offered by The Salvation Army.
The Mobile Food Pantry operates during the third week of each month at the following Wichita locations from 2:00–4:30 PM (or until food runs out). View This Month’s Schedule
Our Mobile Food Pantry relies on generous volunteers to keep operations running smoothly. Volunteers help load and unload food, drive the Canteen, and most importantly, serve individuals in need.
Whether you’d like to volunteer as an individual or as part of a group with your family, friends, workplace, or church, we’d love to have you join us!
