**PLEASE NOTE: This assistance is for GAS BILLS ONLY.**
ALL CLASSES HELD AT 350 N. MARKET, WICHITA,KS
To receive utility assistance, you must attend a required class. Register below for the location that serves your ZIP code. Once a class is full, it will no longer appear as an option. We will be adding future classes each week or once available, so check back to sign up for the next available class if the current class is full.
Program Guidelines & Important Information
- This program provides assistance for GAS BILLS ONLY. Other utility programs will be discussed, but this assistance is specifically for gas services.
- Who Can Apply: Applicants must reside in the home they are applying for.
- Bill Requirement:
- The gas bill must be in the applicant’s name (landlords are not eligible) or the applicant must be listed as a responsible party on the account.
- The bill must show a past-due balance.
- Funding Availability: Assistance is offered on a first-come, first-served basis and is dependent on available funds. Submitting an application does not guarantee approval.
- One-Time Assistance: Assistance is limited to one-time support per household.
- Income Requirement: Households need to meet income eligibility guidelines.
- Income Limit: Based on 200% of Federal Poverty Guideline
- Please allow **10-15 days** for application processing. If you qualify, assistance is not immediate. Continue making arrangements with your provider to avoid service interruptions.
- Applications are submitted through a caseworker.
Steps to Receiving Assistance
- Select a date for The Salvation Army’s Utility Education Class and attend the session at 350 N. Market. Arrive 10 minutes early and check in with the receptionist.
Note: Late arrivals may not be able to attend and may need to sign up for the next session.
- Attend a separate, scheduled appointment with a caseworker (30-60 minutes). Bring budget information, including bills, expenses, and income details.
- Bring the following documents to your appointment:
- Copy of your gas utility bill (including payment address and account number).
- Photo ID.
- Proof of income (paystubs, disability letter, etc.). If you currently have no income, please provide appropriate documentation.
- Proof of Income Includes: Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Blind Pension, Alimony, Child Support, Unemployment Compensation, Veterans Benefits, Pension, Railroad Retirement, Rental Income, Self[1]Employment Income, Temporary Disability payment, Union Funds or Strike Pay, or Employment Income, including direct payment for child or senior care, Uber, Doordash, Instacart or other Contract work payments. You may use your bank statement showing deposit of income.
- Zero Income Proof Options:
- SNAP or HUD budget letter showing zero income.
- Recent termination letter (within 30 days).
- Denial letters for Social Security Disability or unemployment benefits.
- We do not accept self-declaration of no income must have verifiable proof.
- Complete the necessary paperwork, including the application, at your appointment with a caseworker.
