Monty grew up in The Salvation Army as the child of officer parents. Born in Minnesota, he later moved to Kansas City and eventually to Indiana, where he met Angie in Bloomington. Angie had grown up in the Nazarene Church and first encountered The Salvation Army while attending Indiana University and playing volleyball in the corps league.
Both Monty and Angie felt called to full-time ministry, though in very different ways. God began merging their journeys on their second date. Angie discovered that officership was a path she too could follow, and Monty realized that the idea didn’t scare her off. They married in June 1992 and began training at the College For Officer Training in 1993. They were commissioned in 1995 as part of the Messengers of Hope session.
Their ministry journey includes eight years at the Northbrook Corps in Minnesota, three years at the Olathe, Kansas Corps, three years as Divisional Youth Secretaries in Eastern Michigan, four years at the Royal Oak Corps, three years as Territorial Youth Secretaries in Hoffman Estates, and five years at the South Bend Kroc Center in Indiana. Most recently, they served four years at the Rockford Temple Corps in Illinois.
Monty and Angie are passionate about studying, teaching, and preaching the Word of God. They value building relationships, discipling others, and uniting teams around a shared mission. They are energized by the opportunity to connect community, corps, and team, bringing The Salvation Army’s mission to life.
They have two adult children. Their daughter, Grace, is a middle school English teacher, married to Jon, with two daughters—Elena and Sedona. Their son, Blain, recently graduated from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix and is pursuing a career in communications while continuing his love for playing the drums. The family also includes two cats, Max and Milo.
