TobyMac Tour Benefits Indy Back to School Program
The Salvation Army has partnered with the Awakening Foundation and Altrua HealthShare to provide backpacks and school supplies to low-income Indianapolis families through the TobyMac Hits Deep Tour. The tour will provide an additional donation from Awakening Foundation to support The Salvation Army as they continue efforts to ensure vulnerable families are supported across America in their children’s educational experience.
On March 19 the TobyMac Hits Deep tour makes a stop in Indianapolis with a performance in Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Before the concert kicks off at 7:00 p.m. there will be a check presentation for $1,000 to assist The Salvation Army with its long-time school supply program in Fountain Square and surrounding neighborhoods. A limited number of tickets for the concert are still available online at AwakeningEvents.com.
"Over 300 children will be helped with these funds,” says Major Mary Thomas, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army Fountain Square Corps Community Center. The summer program aims to provide much-needed back to school supplies to children whose families are struggling to make ends meet.
“We are extremely grateful for organizations who are so quick to be generous, and eager to entrust their resources to our community. We cannot wait to put these gifts to use for positive impact in Fountain Square,” says Major Rachel Stouder, Central Indiana Area Commander for The Salvation Army.
The two organizations are hoping to make a big impact by partnering with The Salvation Army, which serves people in every zip code in the United States. According to event coordinators, "The Awakening Foundation and Altrua HealthShare are very excited about the opportunity to partner with Salvation Army on our TobyMac Hits Deep Tour 2023 featuring TobyMac, Crowder, Cochren & Co, Tasha Layton, Jon Reddrick, and Terrian to provide program support around The Salvation Army’s local programs such as youth programs, social services, and more."
According to the United Way of Central Indiana, more than 220,000 households in Central Indiana are currently living in, or are just one emergency from, poverty. The Salvation Army will continue its efforts to limit educational disadvantages by providing scholastic tools and materials to as many local students as possible.
Thanks to supporters like Awakening Foundation, The Salvation Army has been able to overcome the local obstacles of the economic downturn and rising inflation. It has continued providing services through the Harbor Light Center recovery facility, the family shelter provided at the Ruth Lilly Women and Children's Center, case management at the Johnson County Red Shield Center, and the food pantry and emergency financial assistance programs at the Fountain Square and Eagle Creek corps community centers.
