Pathway of Hope

Research shows that a child born into poverty is 32 times more likely to remain in poverty than one born into better circumstances.

But this path doesn't have to be inevitable. Pathway of Hope's casework approach ensures that families receive guidance, action steps and resources specifically focused on their particular challenges and goals.

Help for Life's Journey

"Pathway of Hope changed our life journey by helping us get into a new house so we were no longer homeless," said Angel, a single mom and participant in Pathway of Hope. "The program also helped us create a budget we were able to stick to, which allowed us to pay all of our bills on time and eventually get all of our items out of pawn."

How We Help Overcome Poverty

Personal Care Pantry
Many of us don’t think twice about the personal hygiene products we have access to and use every day, but for individuals and families struggling to make ends meet, necessary items like shampoo, soap, toothpaste, deodorant and laundry detergent are often considered luxuries. We offer the only personal care pantry in the greater Council Bluffs area, providing hygiene items, as well as paper products, cleaning supplies, vitamins, over-the-counter medications like Tylenol and allergy medicine and diapers and baby wipes, none of which are eligible for coverage by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (better known as SNAP, and formerly known as food stamps).

Drive-Thru Food Pantry
Last Tuesday of every month
10:30-11:30 a.m.

We offer free staples included canned foods, breads and non-perishables in a convenient drive-thru format to help individuals and families make ends meet when their grocery budget is stretched.

Material, Food & Christmas Assistance
Someone who is weathering a season of unemployment or living paycheck to paycheck can struggle when faced with adding even one small expense to the monthly budget. That's why we offer individuals and families rent and utility assistance, as well as free fans to bring relief during the sweltering summer months and food vouchers, toys and other gift items to ensure there are presents under the tree at Christmas.

Pathway of Hope
Pathway of Hope works with people where they are, offering practical guidance to help families overcome obstacles and achieve their big-picture goals, one step at a time. We offer strengths-based casework to families with children 18 years of age and younger, providing services such as financial counseling and planning, goal setting with manageable action steps, job training, referrals and employment assistance, assistance with securing housing and child care and emotional and spiritual support.

Back-to-School Supplies
We collaborate with our three partners on the Charles E. Lakin Human Services Campus and nearly two dozen additional community agencies to present an annual Back-to-School Distribution in August, providing backpacks and the supplies to help kids start the school year prepared to learn.
