Community Peace Summit
The Salvation Army is hosting a Peace Summit on June 28, 2021 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
The event will take place at 229 W. Main in our Community Center & Lunch will be provided.
The purpose of this event is to display characteristics of peace and solidarity together in our community. Additionally, this Peace Summit stands as a place to discuss ideas about amity, justice, unity or other topics that can increase our collective knowledge, empathy, and approach as a community. Most importantly, the coordinators of this event are seeking audience participation to create focus groups that identify critical needs within our community, so that we can be more successful together.
Attending this conference will be many from our community that represent the city, schools, churches, law enforcement, & social service agencies. Among these will notably be our two keynote presenters: Keyria Rodgers & Dwayne Bryant.
Keyria Rodgers is currently the Director of Millikin’s Criminal Justice Department. She has experience and involvement in our community, in the GRJP (Global Restorative Justice Partnership), and with the Juvenile Justice Commission. Rodgers also works closely with the Illinois Governor’s Office.

Keyria and the GRJP are also able to partner with The Salvation Army thanks to a 2020-2021 Envisioning Justice Grant Award from Illinois Humanities. Together, we will be working to develop an initial concept for a “peace hub” that will have a home here in Decatur. This hub will focus on critical issues identified by the Decatur community such as....
- Peacemaking practices
- Addressing family & community violence
- Youth programming
- Expungements
- Victim support services
- Restoration & healing
