Providing physical needs such as grocery, utility and gift assistance,
to emotional experiences including holiday events and traditions.
The Salvation Army celebrates the birth of Christ by spreading His hope, love and joy to less fortunate members of our community. In fact, our gift-giving programs and fundraising initiatives are a direct answer to God's calling to care for the poor, hungry, sick, and displaced. From physical needs such as grocery, utility and gift assistance, to emotional experiences including holiday events and traditions, to spiritual guidance that provides healing and hope, we work to assist the whole person through gifts that serve the body, mind and soul.
Especially during the holiday season, needed assistance with everyday problems can help a family have the hope they need to start the new year. The Salvation Army assists families with temporal needs by providing food, utility, rent, and other assistance. Through our holistic approach to serving the whole person, we supplement every service with emotional and spiritual support.
Our 2020 online application for assistance has now closed. Please contact 2-1-1 for help locating other potential sources of assistance.
The Salvation Army is once again honored to partner with The Matterhorn Conference Center, Elkhart Rotary, and United Pie Company to provide roughly 1,000 people a Thanksgiving Dinner for free. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year we will be serving meals drive-through style, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 26.
If you are interested in volunteering for the Thanksgiving Dinner this year, please call our office for more information, as we will be scheduling volunteers much differently this year.
**All volunteers, regardless of the shift worked, should dress comfortably and wear comfortable, preferably slip resistant shoes, to this year's Thanksgiving Dinner at the Matterhorn.
***The Matterhorn does not have a secure location to leave purses and other belongings during your shift. Please lock these items in your vehicle prior to beginning your shift. There may be a coat rack available at the volunteer entrance.
***Have fun and enjoy your day at the Matterhorn!
Some of our families who apply for Christmas Assistance are able to be adopted out due to the generosity of people in the community who agree to provide a family everything they need for Christmas. Not only will the kids and parents get gifts, but they will also be given food to make a Christmas dinner.
In a partnership with Toys for Tots, families not eligible for Adopt-A-Family are written a voucher to shop at the Toys for Tots Toyshop. This means that every family who comes into The Salvation Army for help putting toys under the Christmas Tree is able to be serviced.
Our application window for Christmas assistance has now closed. Please call 2-1-1 to be connected with other potential sources of assistance,
