"Hungry" is no way to spend childhood

Every week, The Salvation Army in Burnett County provides nutritious food to families in need through our Backpack Program.

The Burnett County Salvation Army provides 100 backpacks of food to children in need each week

Volunteers in Grantsburg and Siren pack backpacks each week filled with food to go home with school children in need of this nutritional resource in their homes.  Each Backpack contains: Dinner, Breakfast, Fruit, Vegetable, Snack and a milk coupon once a month.

Students arrive back to school on Mondays ready to learn

Prior to implementing the Backpack Program, teachers and staff from area schools were concerned for students who would be visiting the nurses office because of tummy aches. They were tired, hungry and unable to focus. Since the Backpack Program is readily available in our schools, Students are returning from the weekend more ready to focus on learning rather than hunger.

How we help cure hunger

The Backpack Program through the Burnett County Salvation Army serves Grantsburg and Siren Schools.  The program was created to help off-set hunger on the weekends when children who normally receive a free or reduced rate breakfast and lunch at school, wouldn't have access to that same resource on the weekend.  The Backpack is filled with items to help reduce hunger for a child and their family.

Each Backpack Contains:

  • Dinner
  • Breakfast
  • Fruit
  • Vegetable
  • Snack
  • 1x per month, Milk Coupon
