All donations to The Salvation Army of Fond du Lac Christmas Campaign Double up to $100,000

FOND DU LAC

With just days before the kettles and bells disappear & the Kettle Campaign at just under 50% of its goal, The Salvation Army of Fond du Lac Christmas fundraising campaign is extended with an opportunity to match kindness with kindness. Thru December 31, all donations double up to $100,000, thanks to a host of stakeholders.

“The need for financial support is critical. Our entire community faces rising costs of day-to-day living, and many have a financial cushion to insulate the impact. We serve families who live paycheck to paycheck, with no safety net. Hard working parents who once had “just enough to make it” now have to go without themselves to keep up with the rising costs & cannot withstand a major expense or stay afloat thru a layoff,” Crystal Champeau, Social Services Manager at The Salvation Army shared.

In October 2023, in the face of the rising number experiencing homelessness, The Salvation Army pioneered Fond du Lac county’s first Housing Retention, a program to keep families in their homes through circumstances that would otherwise leave them homeless, while bolstering their living skills to help them succeed at a higher level as community members. 41 individuals, including nineteen children, have already been impacted. As of December 20, the program wait list is 6 months long.

The Salvation Army has been delivering new services to fit Fond du Lac County’s needs for 134 years; first to establish food pantry, ministry, thrift store, children’s programs and community coat distribution; bringing the community’s first school supply distribution to Fond du Lac in 1989; establishing summer community Brown Bag Lunch Program in 1993. More recently, The Salvation Army established a FDL Pathway of Hope program in 2015 and now, delivers Housing Retention.

Last year this circle of support answered 22,000 calls for service.

“Our Christmas Campaign has always been an invitation to come together as one community, united in kindness and compassion for each other. Practical kindness drives our growing ability to address root causes of instability and guide families through life’s toughest times,” Captain Christina Champlin, Fond du Lac Corps officer, shares.
