The Salvation Army evaluates every local community and strives to meet the greatest need in each. With your help, we can turn underserved areas into thriving, flourishing communities. Whether it's providing shelter, feeding programs, domestic abuse programs, or addiction recovery: with your support, we will be there today, tomorrow, and until the healing is complete.
The Salvation Army is committed to providing the help that is needed those who need it most.
About 15 percent of the homeless population is comprised of "chronically homeless" individuals. This means struggling neighbors are sleeping on the streets, in cars, staying with family or friends temporarily, or frequently moving from residence to residence. The Salvation Army provides 600,000 nights of shelter in Illinois every year and works to keep thousands of families from becoming homeless.
The Salvation Army partners with the Chicago Bears and Jewel-Osco each year to collect new or gently used winter coats for families. This year's Bears Coat Drive runs through February 1st. Each year, we collect more than 30,000 coats.
