With slavery commonly thought to be a thing of the past, human trafficking generates billions of dollars in profits from sex workers and forced labor.

solace to the brokenhearted and good news to the poor (see Luke 4:18-19)
The Salvation Army has been fighting against social injustice worldwide and here at home for more than 150 years. This commitment to truly Doing The Most Good has positioned us as a leader in combatting human trafficking, advocacy leaders for the poor and hungry, the underpaid, and more. The poor and destitute are much more likely to fall victim to trafficking schemes, or domestic violence. These people, whom God loves, are robbed of their dignity. We have programs to help.

Throughout the Midwest, Salvation Army offers frontline advocacy and care for Human Trafficking survivors. In Chicago alone, our STOP-IT program is a national model that leads the way in fighting Human Trafficking
The Salvation Army has built strong relationships with local partners and coalitions to raise public awareness of injustices. From voicing our concern in city halls and state houses over sustainable funding or proposed legislation that would negatively impact victims, we answer the call in the name of all those we liberate. Additionally we hold specialized awareness trainings in order for case managers and every day people to identify signs of human trafficking.
Our shelters are open to anyone in need of help. Many of our shelters for Women and Children provide a safe space for someone who has taken the brave step to get out of an abusive situation.
The Salvation Army assists families with temporal needs by providing food, housing and utility assistance. Best of all, these programs enable mothers to stay with their children (boys and girls), even when placed in emergency shelters.
Pathway of Hope is a Salvation Army approach to create a path out of poverty. We provide targeted services to families with children under the age of 18, both traditional and non-traditional family structures, that desire to break the cycle of crisis. Through case management, we focus on a family?s capabilities and raise hope by empowering them to overcome barriers on the path to sufficiency. Families set their own goals, and we partner with them to provide the resources needed to accomplish each one.
This program is available at every Salvation Army Worship and Service Center in the Midwest
The Salvation Army operates the largest free Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation program in the U.S. Our Adult Rehabilitation Centers help addicts recover, and put families back together again.
When you need a place to stay during the ?in-between,? our transitional housing program offers shelter until you find a permanent place to live. If you?ve been evicted, are dealing with an addiction, face a domestic break-up or have another type of housing crisis, contact your local Salvation Army to find out what transitional housing options are available in your area.
