THE SALVATION ARMY TO SERVE FREE COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNER WITH NEW SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
The Quincy Salvation Army will serve a free Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 26 from 11am-12:30pm. Due to capacity limits and safety precautions being taken due to COVID-19, the meal will be served via carry-out and delivery to shut-ins. The meal will consist of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner complete with turkey and all the trimmings.
The Salvation Army will begin taking orders and carry-out reservations on November 2 and ending November 19. When calling to place an order, recipients will need to provide the following information: name, number of meals, and a time to pick-up the meals. Shut-ins and those with no transportation will need to provide the following information: name, number of meals, and address.
“While we are sad that our community will not be able to come together and join in fellowship on Thanksgiving Day, it brings us great joy to know that we will still be able to serve a traditional meal to those in need,” stated Senior Kroc Officer Captain Kristina Sjogren. “We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season as we look ahead to the coming months. To those who have been affected by COVID-19 please remember that The Salvation Army is here to assist you during your time of need.”
Volunteers will not be needed, and dessert donations will not be accepted due to the precautions being taken to ensure the health and well-being of the community that is being served. Anyone wishing to make a monetary donation towards the meal may do so by mailing a check to The Salvation Army at PO Box 75, Quincy, IL 62306-0075.
