WELCOME

Thank you for your interest in the chaplaincy program in partnership with the Milwaukee Police Department!  We are excited to work along side you as we together minister to those affected by trauma and violence.

There is a process in becoming a volunteer chaplain here are the steps:

  1. Online Application [See Below]
  2. Background Check (Salvation Amy and MPD)
  3. Training (2 Online self paced classes, 2 in person classes) [See Below]
  4. MPD Citizen Academy Training
  5. Call Out Shadowing

Online Application & Training

There is an online fillable application and background check form that will be sent directly to the Chaplain Coordinator. Please select, Chaplain, as the volunteer area of interest to ensure you complete the background check. Once you have completed the application please return to this page and finish the online training  in the section below.

Online Training

Online Training 1: The Salvation Army Introduction to Disaster Services Course & Release

  1. Go to http://disaster.salvationarmyusa.org
  2. Click onto “create Account” (or, if you have an account, enter log in information). Once your account is created remember “username and password.”
  3. On your Dashboard, under “Profile Completion” there is a blue box entitled: “GET STARTED NOW” for the Intro to Disaster Services online course. Click that box and then follow the link to begin.

[If you do not see the blue box, from the home page once you’ve logged in as a volunteer, look for the “Training Record” link on the left of the page. Click that and follow the link to begin the course.]

**Be sure to complete the test at the end of the training!**

To sign the necessary Release, go to “My Settings” and then “Required Releases.” Read the agreements and electronically sign your name.

If you have questions about your profile and whether you have everything completed, go to “My Settings” and then “Dashboard.” If anything is NOT checked, it means it still needs to be completed.

Online Training 2: Safe from Harm Training

  1. Go to www.praesidiuminc.com/enrollnow
  2. Enter Registration Code: SACTWUM
  3. Fill out the form, select The Salvation Army - Central Territory - Wisconsin and Upper Michigan as Organization
  4. Click the link to enroll.  For ministry unit, please use Chaplaincy Program.
  5. It is recommended to write down your login and password for future.
  6. To begin training immediately click the first link. “Guidelines and Policies”

The 3 required courses are:

  • “Abuse Risk Management for Volunteers,”
  • “Know your Policies,” and
  • “Social Media Safety.”

Now it is time to take the last few steps in becoming a Good Samaritan.

  1. Contact the Chaplaincy Program Coordinator to schedule your two in person classes: Spiritual and Psychological First Aid and Emotional  and Spiritual Care.
  2. The Coordinator will also arrange a date to complete the  MPD Citizen Academy training.
  3. Call Out Shadowing. You will be partnered with a senior chaplain for the first 30 days to respond to call outs and shadow.  After review of the shadow call outs, you will then be placed in rotation to respond.
