I moved here last August with my husband, Mike. We both grew up in Florida where we met in undergrad at the University of Florida. He went to dental school at Marquette (where his grandparents met) and loved it. After some time apart and living in different cities, he wanted to come back to Milwaukee to set up his dental practice, so here we are! We got married last August and I have enjoyed my first full year in Milwaukee very much!
After living in Chicago and Atlanta, I appreciate the size and accessibility of Milwaukee so much. The city is big enough where there are always things to do, but small enough where you feel that it is a community. Being from Florida, I also love that Milwaukee is on the lake, and that is one of my favorite parts for sure!
Atwater Beach is one of my favorites- its beautiful and you feel far away from the “city”! I also love running on the Milwaukee River and Oak leaf trails.
Bastille Days is a lot of fun and reminds me of sunny summer days.
I attended an event put on by Echelon and wanted to learn more about it. I have always had a soft spot with the homeless and hungry, and especially in a cold place like Milwaukee, it is heartbreaking to think of someone being in need of something that I could easily help provider. After learning more, I am very excited about the mission of Echelon and feel that it is a perfect opportunity to become committed to a great cause and feel even more of a sense of community to Milwaukee.
Meeting with a member of the Echelon team to discuss the organization in more detail and leaving with a hug- that says it all! I can tell it is a group of genuine, dedicated, passionate people uniting for a good cause.
I am just learning about the many struggles and history of Milwaukee- segregation, housing insecurity among them. I know that our generation is highly innovative and can continue to bring awareness to these issues and attract others to want to make a difference in our community.
