Behind the Shield: Lieutenant Donna Gooden

Feb 10, 2022

Lieutenant Donna Gooden is currently located at the Milwaukee Citadel Corps in Milwaukee as the Corps Officer. The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County is proud to have her as an officer in our community. Learn more about Lieutenant Gooden below.

Q. How did you first learn about The Salvation Army?
A. When I was growing up my grandfather was a Salvationist and I started attending church with him. From there, I got involved with the youth activities and surrendered my life to God and then became a soldier.

Q. What made you want to become an Officer?
A. I love the Lord and was following through on my calling. I see how God could use me more effectively to transform and provide hope to the people I served in my neighborhood. I desired to leave an impression on those with whom I had worked with and to continue spreading the Gospel, particularly to those who did not know Jesus as their savior.

Q. What is your favorite part about being an officer at TSA?
A. When someone gives their heart to Jesus Christ or renews their commitment to follow Him. As a new officer, I am still gaining knowledge, but I enjoy being out on the field and witnessing God at work.

Q. What has been your favorite experience with TSA?
A. The ability to travel and experience different places and cultures all around the world is an asset. Even though the fact that we are members of The Salvation Army, every country has something distinctive about it. People are also more willing to share their stories about The Salvation Army and how we continue to make a difference during the Kettle season as well.

Q. What is one thing you believe the world should know about TSA?
A. The Salvation Army is a church. Many people do not know we are a church. They know us more for social services and a thrift store (family store).

Q. What are three words you'd use to describe TSA?
A. Compassion - we care for others. Respect - we promote dignity to the people. Integrity - we are honest, trustworthy, and accountable.
