National Volunteer Month Spotlight: Aurora Health Care

Apr 5, 2019

Aurora Health Care not only provides top-notch care to their patients but their community as well. We are so thankful for their partnership for the past three years. Since June 2016, they have provided 150 volunteers to help with Toy Shop, Coat Distribution and Feed the Kids. With their assistance, we were able to provide 54,359 meals to hungry children through our Feed the Kids program in 2018.  We spoke with Marquette Baylor, Aurora Health Care's Community Relations Manager to learn more about the organization and show the impact they have on our organization.

Q. What drew Aurora Health Care to The Salvation Army to volunteer?
A. The Salvation Army was a recipient of Aurora Health Care’s Better Together Fund and we considered them to be a good partnering organization that we could serve through our volunteer and community outreach.

Q. Which of our programs has Aurora Health Care been volunteering with?
A. Aurora Health Care volunteers have helped with packing lunches for the summer lunch program as well as assisted with sorting for the Toy Shop program and coat drives and help the recipients with shopping.

Q. How long has Aurora been volunteering with The Salvation Army?
A. Aurora Health Care has formally been volunteering for three years during the following months, June, November and December.

Q. How did Aurora Health Care first learn about The Salvation Army?
A. We’ve known about the Salvation Army and the services they provide to the community for years but were able to give back to them directly beyond our time through a grant we provided through the Aurora Better Together Fund.

Q. What has been Aurora's favorite experience at The Salvation Army?
A. Our team members/volunteers love the action of volunteering and giving back to the communities we serve. Aurora team members truly appreciate the familiarity and opportunities offered by The Salvation Army and their staff.

Q. What is one thing you believe the world should know about The Salvation Army?
A. I believe the world should know how kind, generous, compassionate and respectful the Salvation Army staff are towards people throughout the community who are in need of services at their most vulnerable state.

Q. What are three words you would use to describe The Salvation Army?
A. Helpful, genuine and compassionate.

Q. Is there anything you'd like to add?
A. Aurora Health Care is grateful for the opportunity to serve others beyond our walls and appreciate your willingness to offer those opportunities with such amazing spirits and professionalism.

The Salvation Army is so thankful for all of the time Aurora Health Care donates to us especially during some of the busiest times of the year. April is National Volunteer Month and we wanted to share how special Aurora Health Care and all of our volunteers are to us.
