The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County Announces 2017 Christmas Campaign Total
Donors contributed to 97 percent of goal
MILWAUKEE COUNTY — The total from The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County's 2017 Red Kettle Campaign is in.
This year's campaign brought in $3,672,133, just $127,867 short of the $3,800,000 goal. Eighty-seven cents of every dollar raised during the Red Kettle Campaign stays locally to help area men, women and children in need.
"The Salvation Army is honored to receive these donations and the trust of the community that goes with them," said Major Steve Merritt, the Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army Wisconsin & Upper Michigan. "Thank you, Milwaukee County."
This is the first time in 12 years that The Salvation Army has not reached its goal in Milwaukee County. As a result, Merritt said he now will need to evaluate all 80 programs and services The Salvation Army provides in Milwaukee County, and cut funding or staff time spent on certain programs and services.
2017 was a unique year for fundraising, as thousands of local donors also gave more than $380,000 toward The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County's fundraising efforts for Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria.
"For disasters, we do not keep any money locally," Merritt said. "One hundred percent of those donations go directly to the area in need."
Donations can be made year-round. If you would like to make a donation to The Salvation Army Milwaukee County, you can:
