The Salvation Army To Distribute Donuts On National Donut Day
MILWAUKEE - The Salvation Army is celebrating National Donut Day by distributing donuts to veterans at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center, 5000 W National Ave., on Friday, June 2.
Donuts will be distributed by Salvation Army staff outside the east side entrance from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
“The Salvation Army established National Donut Day in 1938 to honor The Salvation Army’s “Donut Lassies,” who traveled to the front lines in World War 1, where they provided essential goods and sweet treats to troops to boost morale,” said Major Steve Woodard, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County. “More than a hundred years later, The Salvation Army is still serving on the front lines, now through a wide range of social services for America’s most vulnerable individuals and families.”
