The Salvation Army To Distribute Donuts On National Donut Day

MILWAUKEE - The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County is celebrating National Donut Day by distributing donuts to veterans at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center, 5000 W National Ave., on Friday, June 7.

Donuts will be distributed by Salvation Army and VA staff outside the east side entrance from 8:30 to 10 a.m.

“The Salvation Army established National Donut Day in 1938 to honor The Salvation Army’s Donut Lassies, who traveled to the front lines in WWI in 1917, where they provided essential supplies and made donuts for troops to boost morale,” said Major Beverly Gates, Divisional Secretary for The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County. “More than 100 years later, The Salvation Army is still serving on the front lines in the fight against poverty, homelessness, food insecurity, addiction, and other issues impacting vulnerable individuals and families living in the United States.”

In addition, Salvation Army chaplains will deliver donuts to the Milwaukee Police Department districts they are affiliated with, as a thank-you for their service to the community. Several other Salvation Army locations and Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) teams across the state will also pass out donuts and coffee to first responders on Friday.
