Disasters of incredible magnitude call for people of incredible generosity.
Whether it is a tornado, a flood, a hurricane or a single house fire, The Salvation Army is ready to serve.
The Salvation Army responds to large scale disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and floods on a national level. Our local team is sometimes called to help. Last year several community members went to Florida or Texas in the wake of Hurricane Harvey and Irma. If you would be interested in volunteering to assist with disasters like these, contact our office to arrange for training. 812-944-1018.
We partner with the Fire and Police Department and we are called on during large events to provide refreshments to first responders. We provide water, coffee, a snack, and a meal when necessary in order to allow the first responders to keep doing their job. Our canteen is equipped to provide food and drink.
Victims of local disasters such as a house fire can be given a hotel room until they have found a suitable place to go. The fire department calls us when there is a person in need. We can also help with basic needs such as food and clothing.
Our team of trained volunteers is also called upon to respond in situations of National Disasters including major floods a hurricanes. Our most recent deployment was to Omaha to serve the victims of flooding (March 2018). Three volunteers served there for 2 weeks. People interested in volunteering for Disaster services should contact our office to sign up for training. 812-944-1018.
