Emergency Shelter

When times hit hard, we're here to help.

Youth Emergency Shelter Information

There are roughly 800 homeless youth, age 18 to 21, in the state of Minnesota on any given night. Approximately 480 are in the Twin Cities Metro alone.*The outreach of emergency housing is essential to stabilizing this young and under-served population.

The Booth Brown House opened an emergency youth shelter in the summer of 2012. Our emergency youth shelter can house 16 homeless youth, ages 18-21, on any given night. Youth in need of shelter should call the Ramsey County joint shelter line at 651-444-5757 between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily to find out about bed availability. Youth can also find resources on the Youth Services Network website.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Any homeless youth age 18-21 is eligible to stay at our youth shelter, though all guests must pass a background check upon entry. Entry may be denied because of a felony charge for sexual assault, physical assault or arson. There are no geographical restrictions that would bar entry, though priority placement may be given to youth from Ramsey County.

  • All shelter guests are required to participate in keeping their room and the shared areas clean. Curfew is 11 p.m. Sunday – Thursday night and 12 midnight on weekends. Shelter guests are required to leave the facility by 9:30 a.m. daily.
  • Youth who are actively working toward mutually determined goals may stay up to 90 days if they are from Ramsey County, or up to 30 days for all other counties.

  • The youth overnight shelter is located inside the Booth Brown House at 1471 Como Ave. W. in St. Paul. Shelter guests are placed in rooms based on self-identified gender and individual needs. Our rooms have a total of 12 beds, and guests may have to share a room with one or two other people. All rooms have their own bathroom.

  • Breakfast and evening meals are offered to guests.

  • We provide each guest with two bus tokens daily, during the duration of their stay.
