Summer staff needed at Northwoods Camp
Do you like summer, the great outdoors, kids, and God? If your answer is yes, then The Salvation Army has the perfect job for you: summer camp counselor.
Camp counselors and other staff members are needed at The Salvation Army Northwoods Camp in Finlayson, Minn., where hundreds of kids come every summer to enjoy fishing, ropes courses, archery, music, sports, outdoor Bible studies, and other fun activities.
“Some of the kids have never experienced any of these activities before,” said Tiara Sanchez, a veteran counselor at Northwoods Camp. “It is exciting to watch the campers’ lives change and it is rewarding to be a part of it.”
Counselors must be ages 18 or older and be willing to work June 10–July 27. During that time, a variety of camps will be held for different age groups, along with sports camp, family camp, and two music camps.
Most camps are three or four days long, with two counselors assigned to a maximum of 10 kids.
The job is fairly simple: “Watch the kids, make sure they’re safe, and make sure they’re having fun,” Sanchez said.
The schedule for counselors provides for several hours of break time every day that camp is in session, as well as a day or day-and-a-half off every week, during which time they are free to leave camp or stay and relax. Counselors are provided room and board during the summer, and they too can participate in the various camp activities, such as ATV riding, archery, ropes courses, and more.
In addition to camp counselors, several lifeguards and program aides are needed as well. Program aides (ages 16 and older) perform supportive tasks such as serving food and setting up activities.
If you are interested in becoming a Northwoods Camp staff member, please fill out an application and submit it by May 31.
