Volunteer at Camp

Help us create unforgettable summer memories at camp.

Volunteer Opportunities

Summer programs at Northwoods Camp work best when we have caring and committed adults to give leadership and support to the camping ministry. Your availability and willingness to come to camp and be involved in the lives of our kids is appreciated.

Continue reading below to learn more about volunteering at Northwoods Camp.

Once you've done that, you can complete our Volunteer Sign Up form to start the conversation. You may also reach us by email at nor.youth@usc.salvationarmy.org or by phone at (651) 746-3400. Be sure to let us know what camp(s) you are willing and available to support and what role you would like to fulfill.

Ways to Volunteer at Camp

Lead a Camp Class
Share an skill you have or a topic you're passionate about with campers.

Cabin Counselor
Stay in a cabin with a Staff Camp Counselor with campers. Help campers go to bed on time and get up in the morning. Walk with them to classes and activities, and sit with them at meals.

2nd Adult in Camp Classes
Per our Safe From Harm policies, we need 2 adults with each group of campers.

General Camper Supervision
During afternoon choice time (free time) campers have a choice of activities, and we need adults to monitor campers at various locations around camp.

Photographer
Depending on the camp, we are not always able to delegate a staff person to take pictures throughout the week.

What you can expect

  • To be accommodated in lodge style housing with access to individual use bathrooms. Volunteers serving as a cabin counselor will be housed in a staff room adjacent to their assigned camper cabin with access to a shared staff-only bathroom.
  • To receive meals the same time as the campers.
  • Bedding and towels will be provided in lodge style housing. Twin size bedding and towel needed if serving as a cabin counselor.
  • To walk a lot. (We ask that vehicles are not driven around camp while camp is in session)
