The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit Starts Giving Season 100 Days Before Christmas

Sep 16, 2021

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (September 16, 2021) – With the resurgence of the pandemic and just 100 days until Christmas, the organization is digging in for another challenging season of need. As thousands of people continue to struggle with the impacts of pandemic poverty, The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit is calling on everyone to help individuals and families overcome the threat of eviction amid the holiday season.

Social services organizations like The Salvation Army have worked tirelessly to provide help and hope since the pandemic started, but needs are increasing again this holiday season because of the threat of evictions and a resurging pandemic.

The Salvation Army is steadfast on the frontlines of need to ensure hope marches on. The organization estimates it will need $8.3 million to keep individuals and families in their homes this holiday season in Metro Detroit.

“With the resurgence of COVID-19, The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit anticipates requests for service to increase this holiday season,” said Lt. Colonel John Turner from The Salvation Army. “With the public’s generosity, we will continue to provide help and hope to thousands of individuals and families in need.”

Over the past year, The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit has provided more than 2.4 million meals, nearly 205,000 Christmas toys and gifts for children and seniors, and nearly 383,000 nights of shelter. Now more than ever, The Salvation Army needs everyone’s help. The following options are available for those wishing to support their neighbors in need:

  • A sustaining gift of $25 a month will help hardworking families fend off homelessness.
  • Texting GIFT to 24365
  • Donating money via an online or physical red kettle
