The Salvation Army has changed lives and given hope to countless people throughout Saginaw County. But it can't do it alone.
Volunteers are vital to the work of The Salvation Army. Your valuable skills and fresh perspective will make a difference for our community. Whether it's helping children with their homework, leading beautification projects, or serving holiday meals to the homeless, you help us in 'Doing the Most Good' ™ by helping those who are truly in need.
Coats for Kids
Start your own winter coat drive in October!
Many children throughout Saginaw County go through the winter season under prepared for the harsh Michigan winter. Collection of gloves, mittens, hats, boots and scarves are also welcomed. You, your church, business or organization can take the lead on this one. We’ll even arrange to have gently used coats cleaned and distribute them with the new ones. The deadline for collection is November 2nd.
Collection Drive Coordinator
Similar to our Coats for Kids program, you, your church, business or organization can design a collection drive that fits your unique interest and skill sets. Coordinate details of a one day or one week collection of winter clothing, canned goods, or toys.
Collect cash at work by having a jean day, or a bake sale with proceeds benefiting The Salvation Army Saginaw’s annual Christmas fundraising effort. Let us knowwhat you would like to do, and we can assist with flyers, boxes, or a presentation to your organization.
The Salvation Army Saginaw’s Angel Tree / Emergency Christmas Assistance effort aims to ensure that no child is without a gift to open on Christmas morning. We collect toys at various Angel Trees throughout the community, and distribute these toys to families in need.
Volunteer opportunities include:
Sponsoring an Angel Tree at your place of business or school
Supervising the Angel Tree at Fashion Square Mall
Pick-up/Collection of Toys (various locations)
Sorting Toys in our Toy Shop
Filling Bags with Toy Requests for Families
Volunteer Bell Ringer
We are now recruiting bell ringers for the 2018 holiday season. We’re fighting for good – and we need your help. Sign up to ring the bell at a Salvation Army red kettle this Christmas, and you’ll help raise money to fund our programs and services all year long.
We have over 40 kettle locations throughout Saginaw County, and are in need of volunteers Monday - Saturday from 10am - 8pm beginning
Friday, November 9th, running through Saturday, December 22nd. You can sign up to ring by yourself, with your family, or with a group. On average, just two hours of red kettle bell ringing yields enough in donations to feed 26 people in need during this holiday season, or can provide 20 nights of emergency shelter to families in crisis. Whether you can donate two hours of your time or you are available to volunteer yourself or group for the entire day, your help provides much needed support to our annual fundraising efforts in Saginaw County.
Funds raised through bell ringing are used to fund programs and services throughout the year including provision of food, personal items,
clothing, toys, rent and utility assistance, youth after-school, character building, and summer programming.
