Homeless Shelter Dinner Assistant
Help is needed 7 days a week. You pick the dates that work best for your schedule. Time frame is 4:15pm to 6pm.
Prepare and serve a hot meal for shelter residents with the guidance of staff. Oftentimes full meals are donated and simply need to be heated. Serve the meal to the shelter residents buffet style through kitchen window at 5:30pm. Once everyone is served you are invited to eat with the residents and enjoy their fellowship. Some clean up of the kitchen if necessary after dinner service is complete. Must be at least 18 years of age, able to lift 20 lbs., and comfortable working directly with the homeless population. Interested applicants are required to complete a volunteer application including a criminal background check.
Homeless Shelter Dinner
Prepare and deliver a meal for approximately 40 Emergency Lodge shelter residents on a pre-determined date. The food does not need to be fancy, just hearty to serve a large number. Think comfort foods. The meal should be delivered in disposable containers and does not need to be individually packaged. This a great opportunity for groups, individuals, and families looking to give back to the most vulnerable in our community. No need to supply any paper goods, serving utensils, condiments or beverages as we have them in our kitchen.
Homeless Shelter Lunch Bags
The Emergency Lodge shelter residents receive three meals a day. Breakfast and dinner are served on site and lunch is a pre-packaged bag. Volunteers are encouraged to collect items, prepare and package bags of lunch off site to deliver to the shelter. Please package all refrigerated items separately. A kind note of encouragement and love in each bagged lunch are appreciated too.
Welcome Home Baskets
Gather supplies to create "Welcome Home" baskets that are given to homeless shelter residents as they move into their very own apartment or home. Oftentimes shelter residents have to start from scratch so these baskets should include starter items such as a welcome mat, towels, laundry and kitchen supplies, and cleaning products (no alcohol based supplies). A note of encouragement or a devotional would be a great addition, as they settle in their new home.
