Celebrating National Volunteer Week

Apr 22, 2020

Did you know that more than 3 million people volunteer for The Salvation Army across the United States every year?  As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, we want to give a special shout-out to our Western Division volunteers. From ringing bells during the holiday season to distributing supplies in the wake of a local disaster and serving food to the hungry, volunteers are the backbone of The Salvation Army's efforts to help those in need in Nebraska, South Dakota and western Iowa.

As our communities suffer from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, our volunteers are making a difference by helping to distribute food and educational activity kits to hundreds of families and individuals in Omaha and Council Bluffs.

In South Dakota, volunteers from several local agencies, including The Salvation Army of Mitchell, are collaborating to distribute 600 food boxes to people in need at a mass food distribution event on April 27.

These are just two of the dozens of ways our volunteers are helping The Salvation Army “Do the Most Good” around our division’s three-state area. We salute our generous volunteers and thank them for truly making a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors.

For more information about volunteer opportunities in the Omaha metro, please visit our Omaha website or call our Volunteer Services department at 402-898-6000.

If you are interested in volunteering in greater Nebraska, South Dakota or western Iowa, please call 402-898-6000 or email Shawn.Bonge@usc.salvationarmy.org.
