The Salvation Army of Siouxland Celebrates Christmas in July
We are celebrating Christmas for the whole month of July. Beginning Friday, July 5, and continuing every Friday and Saturday for the month of July, The Salvation Army’s iconic red kettles will be positioned at Sam’s Club, Fareway grocery stores and Bomgaars from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with bells ringing to encourage donations in support of ongoing needs in the community. Local Hy-Vee stores will also have red kettles on Saturday, July 13.
“Just because there’s not snow on the ground doesn’t mean there aren’t still people in need,” said Capt. April Clarke, corps officer at The Salvation Army of Siouxland. “We celebrate Christmas in July as a way to increase awareness and remind people that there are those in our community who need our help during the summer, too.”
In addition to the red kettles, we are teaming up with the Sioux City Explorers to celebrate Christmas in July at the July 27 game against the Texas Airhogs. Tickets to the game are $10, with $5 from every ticket sale directly supporting The Salvation Army’s work in the greater Sioux City area.
Adding to the festivities will be live Christmas music performed by The Salvation Army Divisional Band. Capt. Clarke will throw out the first pitch.
The game starts at 6:05 p.m. at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. Tickets can be purchased at The Salvation Army of Siouxland, 1415 Villa Ave., Sioux City, Iowa.
The Salvation Army has been serving Siouxland since 1888 by providing food, social services, material assistance, youth programming, disaster relief and fellowship in a Christian environment to all without discrimination.
