The Salvation Army of Siouxland Has a “Heart for Our Heroes.”
Officers and staff at The Salvation Army of Siouxland are preparing to provide dozens of lunches to healthcare workers at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City on Friday, May 8 at 11:30 a.m.
The event is part of a three-state Salvation Army campaign at hospitals across Nebraska, South Dakota and western Iowa. Called “Heart for Our Heroes,” the aim of the campaign is to honor and salute the doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff who are working on the front lines of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“MercyOne works every day to heal and save lives, and this is especially true during the COVID-19 outbreak. This is our opportunity to say thank you to the heroes in our community,” said Capt. April Clarke of The Salvation Army of Siouxland.
The opportunity to honor healthcare professionals at MercyOne is especially meaningful to Capts. April and Chris Clarke, as this month marks the one-year anniversary of Capt. Chris’ heart surgery, which entailed the first-ever reconstructed heart valve in Sioux City. The surgery was performed by Dr. Giovanni Ciuffo, medical director of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at MercyOne.
Food for the “Heart for Our Heroes” event at MercyOne will be provided by Four Brothers Bar & Grill in Sioux City.
