Salvation Army Omaha Kroc Center Hosts 3rd Annual Bacon Fest!
The Salvation Army Kroc Center will be sizzling on Sunday, August 9 for its third annual BaconFest Omaha. This afternoon of food, family and fun will be held from 1-5 p.m. on the Festival Plaza of the Kroc Center, 2825 Y Street. The event will be held rain or shine.
BaconFest Omaha offers a wide range of activities including games, live music, vendors and more. The Kids Corral will feature games, crafts and inflatables for children of all ages to enjoy. Performances by two area bands including Marcos & Sabor and High Heel will be featured on the main stage.
The highlight of this year’s BaconFest Omaha is the Farmland Bacon Cook-Off. More than 1,000 pounds of bacon will be donated by Farmland Foods for the competition, which will feature Omaha chefs creating their best bacon-inspired dishes. Attendees of the event will have the chance to taste the dishes and vote for their favorites. A panel of judges will help determine the winner of Best Savory Dish, Best Sweet Dish and Best in Show.
New to 2015 is the Youth Chef Farmland Bacon Cook-Off. Three students from Omaha South High Culinary Program will create kid-friendly, kid-approved bacon dishes for the day. Each student will receive a scholarship to Metropolitan Community College provided by MCC and the Kroc Center.
BaconFest Omaha is an event to raise awareness of and support for the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center's mission and activities for all ages. Funds raised at the event will go to the Kroc Scholarship Fund to help keep Kroc Center memberships and programs affordable for the community.
Tickets for BaconFest Omaha are still available for purchase online at OmahaKroc.org/Baconfest and at the event. Prices are $25 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-17. Children 4 and under receive free admission. Tickets include an all-day pass to the Kroc Center and unlimited bacon samples.
