Hurricane Donations Do the Most Good
As Hurricane Helene recovery efforts continue, the entire country has witnessed the immense destruction caused by this powerful storm. Individuals and families are now left homeless and without the bare essentials as they struggle to deal with the loss of life, security, and community that was swept away. Disaster survivors have been shaken to the core. But through your financial donations, The Salvation Army will remain on-site and help them navigate the uncertain present, while looking with hope toward the future.
When the storm warnings were issued, The Salvation Army worked alongside other federal, state, and local disaster organizations in a coordinated effort to bring immediate help to those who would be impacted. Through shared knowledge and resources, a comprehensive plan was developed to support people and communities during this challenging time.
The Salvation Army mobile feeding units have been working non-stop in partnership with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief field kitchens. They have already served 307,565 hot meals, 33,400 meal kits, 160,556 drinks and 114,152 snacks from 60 mobile feeding units located in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia. Meanwhile, Salvation Army emotional and spiritual caregivers have interacted with 22,863 people who were seeking compassionate support that reflects their unique beliefs and values.

Why do we ask for money and not specific items? Because cash allows us to purchase exactly what people need, when they need it. We don’t have to pay shipping costs, worry about delivery times, have additional manpower to move/relocate goods from one distribution site to another, or store unused items. It reduces waste and stimulates the economy which suffered in the wake of the hurricane.
When you support Salvation Army disaster services, 100% of your donation is applied to the disaster relief operation you select. And The Salvation Army NEVER applies an administrative fee to any disaster gift. If disaster donations exceed identified needs, excess funds will be restricted to support future disaster services. Your donation may be used to provide food and drinks, baby formula, hygiene, cleaning and other emergency supplies, or direct financial assistance to disaster survivors. Donations may also support long-term recovery programs (including repair and reconstruction programs) or to support disaster relief workers serving in impacted communities.
