The Salvation Army honored the retirement of Major George Hood, Community Relations and Development Secretary for The Salvation Army USA’s National Headquarters in late January. Major Hood served with The Salvation Army for 28 years, and as national spokesperson for the organization for the last nine years.

During his appointment at National Headquarters, Major Hood managed the marketing communications, government, public and corporate relations, and disaster services for The Salvation Army in the United States. He also welcomed the installation of 32 of the 44 current members of The Salvation Army’s National Advisory Board (NAB), charged by Chair and close friend, Charlotte Jones Anderson, Executive Vice President of the Dallas Cowboys.

“George has been the heartbeat and the backbone of the Dallas Cowboys’ relationship with The Salvation Army,” said Anderson. “I can’t thank him enough for teaching me and my family and the entire Cowboys organization for that matter, about the power of the Army. I am honored to have had the opportunity to serve alongside him and I am blessed to have known him. He has truly done the most good.”

“George has been such an integral part of our volunteer efforts with The Salvation Army,” said Jerry Jones, owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys. “We love him and we wish him a wonderful future. He has always been there for us and has truly been a part of some of the most of the enjoyable and important days that I have experienced in my time with the Cowboys. I feel like he is part of our family.”

The Salvation Army warmly welcomes Major Ron Busroe as the new Community Relations and Development Secretary for The Salvation Army’s National Headquarters.

“It’s important to recognize that there are populations within the United States that are not as well off as others, and raising awareness of our services and how people can help – during the Red Kettle Campaign, during disasters, or just year round – is an important challenge,” said Major Busroe.

In his new position, Major Busroe will serve as a public spokesperson and focus on heightening the awareness of Salvation Army social service programs, volunteer opportunities and events through the United States.

Prior to his new appointment, Major Busroe was the director of the Haiti Recovery and Development Office which coordinated and directed all post-earthquake recovery and development initiatives.

“We are happy to have Major Ron Busroe bring his experience and a new perspective to The Salvation Army’s national efforts and to build awareness of the organization and its services,” said Commissioner William A. Roberts, National Commander of The Salvation Army. “His skill and experience will help raise awareness for those in need and will be invaluable in highlighting the Mission of the Army to more people throughout the country.”
