  • When healing a community, we must include a safe, welcoming environment with structure and be able to show the love of Christ!

Darius has been working with The Salvation Army and its youth programs for more than 15 years. Needless to say, Darius is passionate about providing children with a safe, structured and Christian environment to learn and grow as individuals. Darius spends his days mentoring children on Detroit’s eastside in hopes he can make enough of an impact to keep them off the streets where they could become victims of crime or commit crimes themselves.

  • There are many ways to evoke the spirit of charity. Young people can get involved by donating their time to create a lasting impact on the city of Detroit.
    - Jordan Yagiela

Jordan Yagiela, student at MSU

Jordan Yagiela is part of a group known as the Detroit Elves that spreads Christmas cheer on one of The Salvation Army’s Bed & Bread truck routes on Christmas Eve.
Seeing the positive impact that Jordan made on the Bed & Bread trucks, her longtime friend Will Campbell (2009 Cass Tech graduate, former U-M football player and current Buffalo Bills practice squad member) was inspired to give back to the city of Detroit. He formed Detroit Elves and asked Jordan to take part.
Through Jordan’s leadership and Will’s connections, the Detroit Elves raised nearly $5,000 on Crowdrise that was used to purchase winter coats and warm winter accessories. Friends and family members also collected new toys that brought smiles to children’s faces. The group  helped nearly 300 people in need on Christmas Eve.
