Our goal is to help ensure that individuals and families get
the food they need to support active, healthy lives.
Approximately 18 percent of children in South Dakota are food insecure, meaning they may not know where they will get their next meal. That's 4 percent higher than the national average.
Recently studies show that people currently facing hunger in South Dakota are likely falling behind financially as they struggle to buy enough food to sustain themselves and their families.
Right here in Codington County, there are men, women and children who are suffering from hunger. Even if you don't realize it, you like know someone who is struggling with food insecurity.
We welcome anyone in need who walks through the doors, including the homeless, people down on their luck and in need of a little extra help, older adults, and families struggling to feed their growing children. We provide these food services to help fight hunger in Codington County and the surrounding area:
Food Pantry | Mondays from 1-3 p.m. and Fridays from 9-11:30 a.m.
We distribute an average of 400 food boxes monthly to impoverished individuals and families. A typical food box includes canned and packaged food, as well as bread, meats and personal hygiene items when available. This program offers those in need nutrition, sustenance and the means to take care of themselves.
Community Lunch Program | Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
We serve a hot, nutritious lunch to anyone in need three times each week. More than 11,000 people benefit from our Community Lunch Program each year, including children during the summer months when grocery costs typically increase when kids are out of school.
Senior Food Boxes
In partnership with Feeding South Dakota, we offer older adults in the community the opportunity to sign up to receive a monthly food box containing canned, packaged and fresh food that can help them sustain good nutrition and optimal health each month.
Senior Food Boxes are distributed at the Worship and Service Center on the last Friday of each month. Seniors interested in participating should complete an application at The Salvation Army of Watertown, 621 4th St. SE.
