Red Kettle Donations Doubled Thanks to Anonymous Gift to The Salvation Army of Elkhart
Donations made to Red Kettles will matched up to $5,000 on December 13 & 14
The Salvation Army of Elkhart is excited to announce that an anonymous donor has offered to match all donations to Red Kettles on Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 14 up to $5,000. The local donor is giving in hopes of that area residents will respond with their own generosity and give a little more in support of local Salvation Army ministries.
"Kettle match days are so important for us because they help give a boost to the regular income for the day, which helps us reach our Christmas goal of $500,000," said Major Tim Nauta of The Salvation Army of Elkhart. "The monies raised ensure that we can continue to provide services and programs like Prime-Timers and Pathway of Hope throughout the coming year."
Adding to the excitement on Friday, members of the Elkhart Police and Fire Departments will have a friendly competition ringing bells for The Salvation Army on from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Walmart Supercenter located on CR 6 in Elkhart. The department that raises the most donations during this annual "Guns & Hoses" event will be crowned winner for the next year.
The Elkhart Rotary Club will also help The Salvation Army reach its goal of raising $5,000 in Red Kettles over two days. Club members will be at multiple locations in Elkhart on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
As Christmas nears, many local residents are looking to The Salvation Army to help them make ends meet and provide a joyful Christmas for their family. Thanks to donations made to the Red Kettles in December, The Salvation Army is able to help those who are struggling in the community find hope for a better tomorrow. Last year, these donations helped The Salvation Army provide almost 33,000 meals to those facing hunger and basic social services, like rent and utility assistance, to 5,500 people in northern Elkhart County and in LaGrange and Steuben counties.
Shoppers looking for a Red Kettle this weekend will find bell ringers in Elkhart and Bristol at Walmart, Martin's Super Market, Kroger, Hobby Lobby, and Harding's Market. Anyone interested in volunteering to ring a bell this holiday season is invited to visit RegisterToRing.com and find a location, date, and time that works for their schedule. There are many 2-hour volunteer bell ringing shifts still available to ensure that as many Red Kettles as possible are out during this special match period.
Every donation given to The Salvation Army through the annual Red Kettle Campaign provides help and hope to those in need, and all gifts stay right here in the community where it is given.
