THE SALVATION ARMY OF ELKHART TO UNVEIL NEW LOCALLY BUILT FEEDING VEHICLE THIS SATURDAY

ELKHART, Ind. (Oct. 25, 2021) – The Salvation Army of Elkhart will officially put into use its new mobile feeding unit following a ribbon-cutting ceremony this Saturday, Oct. 30 at noon at the Elkhart Civic Plaza (350 S. Main St). The community is invited to attend before taking part in the city’s afternoon trick-or-treating event.

Built by Delivery Concepts, which is headquartered in Elkhart, this one-of-a-kind 21-foot vehicle was designed specifically for The Salvation Army and includes an interior oven, refrigerator, freezer and prep tables. The Salvation Army of Elkhart has been serving Elkhart, LaGrange and Steuben counties since 1904, and the new vehicle will allow for provisions to be delivered to those facing and responding to emergency and or natural disaster situations, and for mobile meals to be offered to the community.

Members of the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce will be participating in the ribbon cutting alongside Elkhart Corps Officers Lieutenants Wayne and Katy Benedict.

“It is because of the community support and our generous donors that enables us to support the community back,” Lieutenant Katy said. “We are excited about this unique mobile kitchen, designed and built locally by Delivery Concepts, that will enable our Emergency Disaster Services team to provide hydration and snacks to first responders and victims during disasters such as floods and fires.”

Meeting social, spiritual, and emotional needs, The Salvation Army of Elkhart annually serves an average of 3,500 individuals through year-round programs and services. The umbrella of programs and services in Elkhart reaches wide and includes supplying food, rental, and utility assistance, providing youth programs, supporting individuals struggling with substance use disorder, offering spiritual counseling, equipping families to break the cyclical nature of poverty, aiding disaster victims every time catastrophe strikes, and providing assistance for families at Christmas.
