Detroit Apartment Community Blessed by Bed & Bread Club

Every day the Bed & Bread Club® truck makes its way through Detroit to feed those in need. It travels multiple routes and makes over 60 stops to feed the hungry, even on holidays and in bad weather.
A recent addition to the route was Plymouth Square Apartments in Detroit. When the truck started coming by, residents were excited. Many at the apartments struggle with food insecurity or mobility issues which has made getting food difficult.
It all came about when Lisa Williams, the apartment’s resident services coordinator, was looking for resources to assist her community, and was thrilled to discover the Bed & Bread Club online.
Since then, the truck comes by regularly and is always greeted with enthusiasm.
“It’s been amazing, having hot, fresh food as a resource for our residents. And they love it,” said Williams.
Linda and Vicki, two residents of Plymouth Square Apartments, were quick with their praise of the new resource.
“Anything that services our community, in even the smallest way, makes us so grateful, and is so very important for people. Some people are handicapped and can’t find food easily. The truck allows them to at least have a meal, and sometimes it’s enough for two meals,” said Vicki.

“I think the truck is a valuable resource for the residents here. They can get a hot bowl of soup, or hot chocolate, which we’re having today, and it helps us,” said Linda.
The residents of Plymouth Square Apartments are just one example of the people who are helped by the Bed & Bread Club program. Countless other individuals just like Linda and Vicki are receiving help every day.
