2021 RED KETTLE CAMPAIGN

THE SALVATION ARMY OF PETOSKEY’S 2021 CHRISTMAS SEASON FALLS $35,000 SHORT OF BUDGETED GOAL

The Salvation Army of Petoskey fell short of last year's Red Kettle Campaign total by $11,000, and are projected to fall nearly $35,000 short of the season’s overall budgeted goal which includes mail and other donations. Aside from anticipated pandemic fatigue, the decrease likely stems from the same issue all businesses are struggling to overcome with shortages in staffing and volunteers.

“We are so grateful for the many dedicated volunteers and staff that gave their time to ring bells for neighbors in need this holiday season” says Envoy, Greg Irwin. “Although we came in slightly under our budgeted goal, we are incredibly blessed to have raised over $142,000 during our annual Red Kettle Campaign”.

The Salvation Army is blessed to have the support of many local Rotarians, Kiwanians, Lions, and Masons, but volunteers also come from student groups, partner organizations like Harbor Hall and local churches. Thank you New Hope Community Church, Genesis Church and Petoskey United Methodist Church members for stepping in last minute to ring bells at the end when we were in need.

Since the onset of the pandemic, the amount of community assistance The Salvation Army of Petoskey has given has increased considerably from an average of around $330,000 per year over the 3-county service area to more than $650,000 over the last fiscal year. Money raised during the holidays supports many local programs and services from meal deliveries to children’s and senior programs.

The Salvation Army would like to recognize community partners Walmart, Meijer, IGA, Oleson’s Food Stores, Louie’s Fresh Market, Hobby Lobby, Katydid, Big Lots, Walgreens, D&W, Family Fare, Village Markets and Eastport Market for their contributions, continued support and community spirit. They provide the foundation that allows the Red Kettle Campaign to succeed each year.

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the Universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
