SUPPORT FOR INCREASING CRITICAL NEEDS
Funding Supports Struggling Residents Of Emmet and Charlevoix Counties
PETOSKEY, MI- The Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation (PHSACF) awarded $15,000 and Charlevoix County Community Foundation (C3F) awarded $14,500 to The Salvation Army of Petoskey. Funds will be administered through the Emergency Financial Assistance Program (EFAP) to help cover the increase of demand for critical needs. EFAP provides heat, electricity water, shelter and other basic needs that threaten a household’s livelihood or individuals ability to maintain a stable household. PHSACF funding is ear-marked for residents of Emmet County while C3F funding is dedicated to Charlevoix County households.
“We are extremely grateful to Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation, Charlevoix County Community Foundation and the many compassionate community members who enable them to care for struggling families through generous donations to essential community programs and services” says Envoy Roman Hank. “We are very blessed to live in an area where the entire community pulls together during challenging times to ensure our neighbors do not go without the vital support they need to survive”.
Emergency Financial Assistance expenses have risen $500,000 since 2020 and are unfortunately trending to be the “new norm”. Although the majority of the increase stemmed from pandemic fall-out, demand for critical need services still continues to rise due to inflation and economic uncertainty. Last fiscal year, The Salvation Army of Petoskey disbursed $751,498 in emergency financial assistance and provided an additional $96,667 in leveraged utility assistance through case management services. Although government resources controlling leveraged funding were down from the prior year, a total of $848,165 of assistance was provided for neighbors in need.
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the Universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God.
